So, We Can Have Forums... Now What?

It’s a bit kludgy but it’s now possible to have a community-style forum here on the Blogging Alliance of Non-Partisan Canadians domain. So, what do we do about it? If you have suggestions for topics, post them here. Other website features would also be welcome. How do you like the revised BANPC website so far?

If this works out, I’ll upgrade to a proper forum software.

Should the blogrool remain political while non-partisan? For example, “Canadian Free Stuff” might be a nice site, but I would consider it apolitical and as such not really belonging on a political blog roll.

Not saying we got to be political all the time but we gotta at least express political views sometimes?

I’m not suggesting booting anyone, just wanted to open up the discussion to your thoughts. James, I’m guessing that you should be the one with the opinion that counts. :)

This is a good question, and I’ve wondered about that myself. I explicitly set up the BANPC to give individuals who didn’t want to join the partisan blogrolls (the Blogging Tories, the Libloggers, et cetera) a home, so non-political sites are welcome alongside the non-partisan political ones. However, I have wondered at the number of advertising/deal sites I’ve seen apply. These fit the description, but I don’t want to swamp this blogroll with commercial advertising.

I don’t want to boot out anybody who is already in, but perhaps we should declare a moratorium on advertising sites?

Well, I asked because I noticed that the “good” posts are well outnumbered by adverts today. I could easly get the RSS if I wanted the best deals in town.

I’d certainly recommend a ban on “advertising posts”. I do not see any need to ban “talking about my personal life style posts” as that allows the comunity to get to know one another.

Perhaps a different angle? A ban on nusance posting. I could think of a couple of examples, like…

multiple one line posts to eliminate opposive view points… advertising posts… posts that break canadian law…

“Should the blogroll remain political while non-partisan?”

Yes.

After being accepted to BANPC, I set my Google Reader to pick up BANPC’s site feed. Ever since, I’ve been frustrated by the number of posts from shopping sites which have been junking up the incoming stream.

I don’t want to remove BANPC’s feed from the Reader, since there are good political posts that show up from time to time. However, am beginning to lose patience. Given the name of the site, it is reasonable for people to expect 90 percent or more of posts to be about politics, not about some free deal or discount coupons aimed at getting people to buy something.
